GST Registration in India: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide

GST registration gives your business a unique GST Identification Number (GSTIN) and lets you collect GST, claim input tax credit and issue proper tax invoices. But not every business needs it from day one — so when is it actually mandatory?

Registration becomes compulsory once your aggregate turnover crosses the prescribed threshold, which differs for goods and services and by state. It is also mandatory — regardless of turnover — for businesses making inter-state supplies and for most e-commerce sellers.

The process itself is fully online: you submit your PAN, Aadhaar, business address proof and bank details, complete Aadhaar authentication, and the department issues your GSTIN, usually within a few working days.

Once registered, you must file periodic returns (such as GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B) on time, even for months with no sales. Missing deadlines attracts late fees and can block your input tax credit.

If you are unsure whether you need GST or want it handled without the paperwork, CorpRaasta can register you and manage your monthly returns end to end.
